As a freelancer, writer and blogger, I am always looking for resources to help with my writing and blogging. From all my research everyday, I have many resources bookmarked. Since I use WordPress for my blog platform, I am always interested in resources on WordPress.

In a previous post, Quick Tip – 5 Helpful WordPress Plugins, I listed out 5 helpful WordPress plugins. In this post, I have another 5 WordPress plugins that will help those looking to add more functionality to their blog.

Here are some more helpful plugins that I have come across that will assist you in our journey to blogging success.

1. Ad Rotator

This plugin allows me to setup a rotation of ads through simple text files. I simply reference the text file in my blog template and the plugin will rotate the ads I have listed in the text file. With the help of this plugin, I no longer have to manually switch out ads. I now have a more automated process for showing ads on my blog.

2. Redirection

This is such a great plugin! Ever want a good way to redirect visitors to your blog in a simple and easy way? This plugin is for you. This plugin will automatically redirect post urls as well as a 301-redirect manager. With this plugin, you can redirect those pesky mis-spelled post urls. This is great for SEO as well!

3. Google XML Sitemaps

We all know how important it is to have a sitemap for your blog. This plugin will generate an XML-Sitemap compliant sitemap. This is great plugin to tell search engines where to go to get a map of all the information on your site.

4. WP-DB-Backup

You have a great blog. Do you backup your blog? This plugin is great at providing you a backup of your WordPress DB. It is always a good idea to have backups of your WordPress databases and supporting files.

5. All in One SEO Pack

We all know how important Search Engine Optimization is to our blogs. A major goal is to get the search engines to see and rank your posts in a favorable way. This plugin takes alot of the work out of setting up SEO for your blog. There are many benefits to this plugin and I use it on all my blogs. Check it out and I am sure you will be using it as well.

Another WordPress Resource – WordPress TV

I am always looking to add more resources to my toolbox. As I was going some sites the other day, I came across something interesting. WordPress has another resource site for those of us that use it for our blogs.

The new site is called WordPress TV. It takes different information for WordPress, such as tweaks, hacks, etc and presents them as videos for all to see. It seems their take on it is to check out there site for visual presentations of information, instead of traveling all kinds of different sites for that information. It is kind of like mini training videos. Well, sort of.

I still have more of the site to checkout, but so far it looks interesting to me. Give it a shot and see what you think of the new site. It may become one of your resources to add to your toolbox.

If you use wordpress for your blogging platform, then you know about plugins. They are extra components that you “plugin” to extend the functionality of your blog. Here are some helpful plugins that I have come across that will assist you in our journey to blogging success.

1. Theme Tester

Ever want to change your theme on your blog to a new, shinier theme? Of course, we have all thought about it. Well, what do you do if you don’t want everyone to see what you are doing? There is a cool plugin called Theme Tester. Once enabled, it will hide any changes and will save those changes only after the plugin is disabled. Give this one a try, I personally have used it and love it.

2. CformsII

Contact forms. Some may want guest to be able to send messages in a form instead of a email link. With a form, you can customize and enforce what the guest can send to you. The CformsII plugin is a customizable and powerful form builder plugin. There are many different setup choices with this plugin. Inputting a form is as simple as the click of a button.

3. WP Super Cache

This is a great plugin for those that receive or plan to receive a lot of traffic to their blog. The dynamic database backend and creation of pages can make a heavily used wordpress blog go down. This plugin will generate static html files from the dynamic wordpress blog. The static html pages will be served instead of dynamic content generation, which will speed up and lighten the load on your blog.

4. WP-Polls

This plugin makes it possible to put a poll on your blog. This plugin also includes a widget to easily post the poll to your blog. This plugin is highly customizable and very user friendly. I currently have a poll on my blog using this plugin.

5. Top Commentators

This is wonderful addition that every blogger should have on their blog. Top Commentators will allow you to post the top commentators on your site. Commenting on other blogs is one of the best ways to get backlinks to your blog. By rewarding visitors with this feature you will increase the chances of more backlinks for your blog.
